    Where It All Began

For our co-founder Gopi Kalyan Bussey, it began with a personal experience: travelling hundreds of kilometres to reach trusted doctors, and realising that mental healthcare should never be a privilege.

    In Gopi Kalyan Bussey’s words

Every meaningful journey begins somewhere. For InnerWhispers, it began with a personal experience.

In 2022, due to certain personal circumstances, I sought professional mental health support and began attending therapy sessions. Finding the right help was not easy. I had to travel hundreds of kilometres to reach trusted doctors and access the support I needed.

The experience made me realise something important: mental healthcare should never be a privilege available only to people who have the resources, awareness, or ability to travel long distances.

There were countless individuals who needed professional support but struggled with accessibility, affordability, awareness, and social stigma.

A question stayed with me: What if trusted mental health support could reach people wherever they are, without making them travel hundreds of kilometres or worry about whether they could afford it?

That question eventually became the foundation of InnerWhispers.

    The Beginning of an Idea

A personal thought became a larger vision, with early support from Dr. Navya Mounika and Rakesh Paka.

    In Gopi Kalyan Bussey’s words

In 2023, what started as a personal thought began taking shape as a larger vision.

I found my initial supporters in Dr. Navya Mounika, who brought valuable clinical perspective, and my brother-in-law, Rakesh Paka, who supported the vision and its early development.

Together, we began exploring the possibilities of making mental health services more accessible, affordable, and approachable.

We understood that building a mental healthcare platform required more than simply connecting doctors with users. It needed trust, research, responsible clinical practices, technology, awareness, and a deeper understanding of the challenges people face when seeking help.

We started looking for possible approaches, studying existing systems, understanding people's needs, and exploring how we could build something meaningful and sustainable.

Slowly, an idea started becoming a mission.

Two Years of Exploration, Research and Building

Nearly two years of research, prototypes and lessons, with Radha Kalyani, Dany and Bhanu, especially about the barriers people face in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

We knew that we couldn't build something meaningful without understanding the actual problems.

What followed was nearly two years of continuous research, experimentation, learning, and development.

During this period, we worked with a growing group of trusted people who shared our vision, including Radha Kalyani, Dany, and Bhanu.

Together, we explored different possibilities and experimented with multiple approaches. We built and tested several prototypes, experimented with web applications, explored digital mental wellness solutions, worked on community-based initiatives, and studied how technology could support mental healthcare.

Not everything worked the way we expected. Some ideas evolved, some prototypes were redesigned, and some approaches taught us valuable lessons about what people actually needed. But every experiment brought us closer to understanding the bigger picture.

We gradually realised that mental healthcare in India needed an approach that went beyond consultation alone. People needed awareness, early support, trusted professionals, community engagement, and accessible wellness resources.

Most importantly, we began understanding the unique challenges faced by people in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where awareness, affordability, accessibility, and social acceptance can become significant barriers.

Those two years shaped the foundation of what InnerWhispers would eventually become.

After years of research, experimentation, and planning, we took an important step towards turning our vision into an organisation.

On 10 March 2025, InnerWhispers Wellness LLP was officially incorporated.

This was more than an administrative milestone. It marked the beginning of our commitment to building a structured, responsible, and sustainable mental healthcare ecosystem.

With the vision becoming an organisation, we started strengthening our internal operations, bringing in interns, developing our internal projects, improving our existing prototypes, and working towards building solutions that could make a real difference.

We began creating opportunities for young individuals to contribute their skills, ideas, and creativity towards a meaningful cause.

Our focus gradually expanded from simply developing a platform to building an ecosystem that could bring together technology, professionals, students, communities, and people seeking support.

The Birth of NAU: Now As You Are

Mental health awareness can’t live only inside a website or a consultation room. NAU takes it to colleges, clubs and everyday conversations, with campus chapters, an online community and 5,000+ people reached so far.

As our understanding of mental health in India grew, we realised something important.

Mental health awareness cannot exist only inside a website or a consultation room. It needs to become part of everyday conversations, communities, educational institutions, and society.

We wanted to reach students, young people, and individuals who might never actively search for mental health support but still needed awareness, understanding, and a safe environment to express themselves.

That thought led to the creation of NAU, Now As You Are: a community-driven initiative focused on encouraging self-expression, emotional awareness, acceptance, and meaningful conversations around mental wellbeing.

Through NAU, we began exploring ways to take mental health awareness directly to people rather than waiting for people to approach us. We started establishing student communities and clubs in colleges, organising awareness programmes, conducting campus activities, and creating opportunities for students to participate in conversations that were often ignored or misunderstood.

What began as an initiative to build awareness gradually evolved into a growing community.

With NAU and InnerWhispers working towards a shared mission, our activities started expanding beyond digital platforms.

We organised college-level events, community-based programmes, and awareness initiatives to bring mental health conversations closer to people.

We also extended our support towards orphanages, old-age homes, and communities where individuals may have limited access to emotional and mental wellbeing resources.

We listened to students navigating academic pressure, individuals dealing with everyday challenges, elderly people who needed companionship and emotional support, and communities that often remained outside mainstream mental health conversations.

Every interaction reminded us that mental health is not limited to a particular age group, profession, or background. It is a part of everyone's life.

We were no longer looking at mental healthcare only as a service to be delivered. We were beginning to understand it as a responsibility towards society.

One of our significant milestones was organising MENTIS, a 24-hour mental health hackathon, which we envisioned as Telangana's first mental health-focused hackathon.

MENTIS brought together innovation, technology, creativity, and mental health awareness under one roof. The idea was simple: mental health challenges deserve practical solutions, and young innovators should have the opportunity to contribute towards solving them.

Through this initiative, we encouraged participants to explore real-world mental health problems, think beyond conventional approaches, and develop technology-driven ideas that could potentially make mental wellness more accessible.

MENTIS represented an important shift in our journey. It showed us how powerful collaboration could be when people from different backgrounds came together with a shared purpose.

More importantly, it strengthened our belief that the future of mental healthcare would require collaboration between clinical expertise, technology, research, innovation, and community participation.

    Our Own Digital Wellness Ecosystem

Support shouldn’t end with booking an appointment. Mood tracking, journaling, self-assessments and wellness activities, free wherever possible.

As we continued working with communities and understanding people's needs, another thought began taking shape.

We had spent years exploring ways to make professional mental health services accessible. But what about the moments when someone needed guidance outside a scheduled consultation? What about people who wanted to understand their emotions, track their wellbeing, develop healthier routines, or access basic mental wellness resources at their own pace?

We realised that accessibility should not end with booking an appointment. People should have access to supportive digital resources whenever and wherever possible.

This led us towards developing our own mental wellness dashboards and digital platforms: a space where individuals could explore their wellbeing, access self-help resources, maintain personal wellness records, and engage with supportive tools without unnecessary barriers.

We began exploring features that could support everyday wellbeing, including mood tracking, journaling, self-assessment tools, wellness activities, and personalised digital experiences, built to be simple to understand, easy to use, and accessible to people with different levels of digital awareness.

Our vision was to make these resources available free of charge wherever possible, while continuing to work towards a more inclusive digital mental healthcare ecosystem.

    Introducing Fern.ai

Our mental health AI platform, developed by our AI and Research Interns. Not to replace human connection, but to make the right resources easier to reach.

As our digital initiatives evolved, we began exploring another important area: Artificial Intelligence and its potential role in mental healthcare.

This led to the development of Fern.ai, our mental health AI platform, being explored and developed with the dedicated efforts of our AI and Research Interns.

We believe that technology, when developed responsibly, can open new possibilities for making mental wellness resources more accessible and personalised. Through Fern.ai, we are exploring how AI-driven experiences can support emotional awareness, provide contextual interactions, and help individuals navigate their mental wellness journeys.

For us, AI is not about replacing human connection or professional mental healthcare. It is about exploring how technology can complement existing support systems and make appropriate resources more accessible.

Fern.ai is another step in our ongoing journey of learning, building, and innovating.

Our vision ahead

Support as Natural as Seeing a Doctor

We envision a future where seeking mental health support is as natural as seeking physical healthcare: where students can talk openly about their struggles, families understand emotional wellbeing, communities become more accepting, and professional support is not restricted by geography or financial circumstances.

What started with one person's search for accessible mental healthcare has grown into a collective effort of doctors, researchers, students, interns, volunteers, innovators and communities. We are grateful to everyone who believed in this vision, and we are committed to doing much more.

“Your journey matters. Your feelings matter. And you deserve support, just as you are.”
